Branson Vacations: Outdoor Recreational Appeal
Over time the city of Branson, Missouri has emerged as
a top East Coast vacation destination. The growing popularity of Branson
is tied closely to the incredible quality and quantity of entertainment
options available in the area. While Branson, MO may be best known for
its world-class theatrical and musical acts and its impressive live
shows, the greater Branson region actually offers a myriad of recreational
opportunities for vacationers to enjoy. Among these many recreational
opportunities is included Branson's close proximity to a wide variety
of outdoor recreational sites within the Ozark Mountains.
Much of the appeal of the Branson area is connected to the city's central
location. Branson is situated in the southwest corner of Missouri. That
makes it a hub location for vacationers looking to explore Kansas, Oklahoma,
Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and Illinois. Of course, this location
also puts Branson within a short distance from many incredible recreation
destinations nestled within the world famous Ozark Mountains. The Ozarks
are well known for their striking and unique alpine vistas. The Ozarks
offer a type of mountain vacation experience that is unparalleled by
any other range located within the United States. And Branson serves
as a perfect launching point from which to explore the beauty of the
Ozark region.
In the early part of the 20th century the area known today as the Ozarks
was still called the Upper White River Valley. Mountain vacation enthusiasts
quickly brought acclaim to this unique area that stretched all the way
from Springfield, Missouri on into Arkansas to the south. Freshwater
creeks, rivers and streams weaved paths throughout the Ozarks and this
created ideal hiking conditions for outdoor explorers. And of course
the White River provided, and still provides, plenty of perfect spots
for fishing enthusiasts to take advantage of as well.
It was not long before the great fame of the Upper White River Valley
(later christened the Ozark Mountain Country) led the state and federal
governments to establish parks and nature preserves throughout the area
so as to guarantee that future generations would be able to explore
the same stunning beauty that original settlers discovered here decades
previous. Located just east of Branson, MO, the Mark Twain National
Forrest and the Ozark Scenic National Riverways offer tremendous natural
vistas and outdoor recreational opportunities to area visitors.
The vast region of the Mark Twain National Forrest stretches all the
way from the southeastern St. Francois Mountains to the dry rocky glades
of the southwest; and from Missouri River prairie lands to America's
most ancient mountains to the south. Crystal clear, mountain streams
and rivers and picturesque rock outcrops create an idyllic outdoor wonderland
that helps to attract millions of vacationers to this area just outside
Branson each and every year.
Water-based recreational activities, along with mountain recreation,
is perhaps the most popular of outdoor opportunities available in the
greater Branson, MO area. While the seasons of later summer and autumn
are amongst the most popular for Branson area water enthusiasts, many
of Branson's water-based recreational highlights can be enjoyed right
up until Christmas.
Table Rock Lake is one of the area's most visited outdoor locations.
Fishing, boating, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, and even scuba diving
are all activities that visitors to Table Rock Lake tend to enjoy. Even
when the Lake is a little chilly for these types of activities, vacationers
can experience an old-time lake cruise on the popular Branson Belle
Showboat. Onboard the Branson Belle Branson vacationers can enjoy live
entertainment (of course!) exquisite dining and outstanding area vistas.
While the recreational opportunities provided by Table Rock Lake may
make it the most visited of lakes in the greater Branson area, it is
by no means the only lake destination. Lake Taneycomo is popular with
fishing enthusiasts for the German Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout it
offers up. This lake is a man-made water-body formed by the damming
of the White River. Lake Taneycomo plays a part in the Ozark Mountains
Christmas displays every year; providing spectacular lighting displays
for Branson area vacationers to enjoy. In addition to Table Rock Lake
and Lake Taneycomo, nearby Bull Shoals Lake offers a wide variety of
water-based activities for visitors to enjoy as well. Bull Shows Lake
is a little less well known and this can provide for greater seclusion
and a more laid-back pace.
In reality the fame of the Ozarks brought tourists to this part of Missouri
long before cities like Branson grew into the entertainment Mecca it
is today. The Ozark Mountains region features not only scenic mountaintop
vistas of the surrounding area, but also lush forest terrain and picturesque
river channels.
Today the best of both worlds is available to Branson vacationers. Not
only can visitors enjoy the live entertainment, theme parks, and charm
of Branson itself, but they can also make short day-trip ventures to
enjoy the many recreational opportunities afforded by the surrounding
Ozarks. Water recreation, hiking and much more, are activities available
for Branson vacationers just minutes beyond the Branson city limits.
All of this recreational appeal (both indoor and outdoor) helps to make
Branson, Missouri the top East Coast vacation destination that it is
today.
